Nazari Digar or Different View, initiative started In March 2019 by Tahmina Hakimova- Rees, who is the mother of a child with Down’s Syndrome, who is originally Tajik but lives in the UK. On March 9th the first photo exhibition of children with DS from Tajikistan by Tahmina Hakimova-Rees was launched in London, UK. The photo exhibition’s name was ‘The hidden sunbeams of Tajikistan’. It raised enough funds to kick off the initiative. The initiative became a movement in Tajikistan and recently was registered as a UK Charity. Our objectives are: 1) Health Parents, family members, health workers and people with Down’s Syndrome have the knowledge and attitudes needed to understand health issues, have access to professional services and equipment, and are engaged in taking proactive measures to stay healthy and to resolve problems as they arise. 2) Learning and Trainings People with Down’s Syndrome have access to activities that support their personal development, improve their communication abilities, provide them with skills for working, keep them active and support their education. 3) Family Support Parents and family members of people with Down’s Syndrome are supported, empowered, celebrate the achievements of people with Down’s Syndrome, and have access to the equipment and specialists that they need. Family Support 4)Inclusion People with Down’s Syndrome are able to take an active part in an inclusive society, whether at nursery school, school, in the workplace and in general life. 5)Awareness and acceptance Society is aware, knowledgeable and supportive of the positive and fulfilling lives that people with Down’s Syndrome can live. At the end of February 2020, as a result of our activism, we were in contact with 150 people who have Down’s Syndrome in Tajikistan, this includes, ethnic Tajik parents who live in Russia, USA and France and the number is growing.
