Founded by Hanna Fogelqvist and Alice Sandström in 2020, Nearly Theatre has found its niche in adapting and recontextualising familiar stories. So for we have genderbent Oscar Wilde, analysed the legacy of Henrik Ibsen, bedazzled William Shakespeare, and queered Jane Austen. As a non-profit organisation, Nearly Theatre is centered around the word ‘amateur’ - someone who loves what they do. We are a queer, feminist, class-conscious, democratic organisation, and we strive to make ethics of care present both in how we relate to each other behind the stage and what we perform on it.
