Nereid Biomaterials

We design polymers and products that biodegrade completely in seawater in years, not centuries. We work with marine industries such as oceanographic equipment, aquaculture, and fishing in applications where gear is either designed to be expendable or has a high probability of loss. Our technology uses living materials to accelerate the degradation of objects at the end of their life. These self-eating materials prevent the continual formation of smaller and smaller microplastics that persist in the ocean and damage fragile marine ecosystems.
