New Millennium Writings

NMW's mission is to promote vibrant imagery, word-craft and pure story-telling talent by new and emerging writers. NMW is one of the longest-running literary magazines in Tennessee and has the largest circulation of any literary magazine in the state. We have launched careers by awarding more than to writers of fiction, poetry, non-fiction and flash fiction. Winners of our twice-annual awards in four categories are showcased alongside interviews and profiles of famous writers, such as Cormac McCarthy, Nikki Giovanni, Ken Kesey, Shel Silverstein, Charles Wright, J.D. Salinger, Khaled Hosseini, George Garrett, Lucille Clifton, John Updike, Lee Smith, William Kennedy, Allen Wier, and Norman Mailer. Occasionally we will host special "zeitgeist" contests. In honor of the SCOTUS ruling on Marriage Equality, we partnered with the powerful Seattle-based nonprofit FREE2LUV®, and hosted a very special essay contest surrounding the question,"What does Marriage Equality mean to you?" The submissions were powerful and the winner was chosen by NMW's Celebrity Judge, actress/singer Thea Gill (co-star of Showtime's "Queer as Folk") who generously donated her time.
