NGI LocalforLocal brings the vision of the Next Generation Internet into practice by supporting local currency initiatives across Europe with a shared, sovereign technological foundation. The project is carried out with support from Centric as part of the NGI initiative, funded by the European Union. Our open source ecosystem enables local projects to collaborate, co-develop, and share software components, strengthening independence from foreign tech providers while fostering a resilient and cooperative network. Our goals-Build a European network of local currencies that provides mutual support and strengthens their position across Europe-Generate socio economic impact in local regions through more effective and widely adopted local currencies-Develop a high performing open source software stack tailored to the needs of European local currency initiatives. By creating a currency federation, NGI LocalforLocal connects local initiatives, enhances their resilience, and promotes collaboration within an open, innovation driven ecosystem aligned with European digital rights.
