Nics Unicamp

As a research centre inside the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), the Interdisciplinary Nucleus for Sound Studies (NICS), performs scientific research in its area, integrating both technology and art. Since its inception, NICS is a nucleus dedicated to interdisciplinary research, focusing on innovative themes such as noise pollution, analysis of animals' sounds, phonetics, electronic music, ethnomusicological records, mathematical modeling, robotics, and artificial intelligence for new digital musical instruments, as well as to music composition processes. Currently, NICS researchers are focused on bioacoustics, music therapy, musical creation and analysis with computational support, multimodal performance, sound modeling, and developing interactive environments applied to processes of mediated interpretation and musical cognition. NICS also performs artistic productions and develops its software and hardware, successfully presenting them at important events in Brazil and around the world.
