Not Your Usual Education

We learn best when we enjoy the process. Learning shouldn’t be limited to inside a classroom. Learning should be fun. Our Current Project: Not Your Usual Exercise: We started this project because we, as experienced English teachers in Hong Kong, are tired of seeing English exercises on the market, and even school curricula focusing on drilling grammar without reinforcing actual, authentic, and meaningful use. After finishing PGDE, Miss Janice decided to be the change and produce better English learning materials. We want to expose students to contextualized input and let them use language in a meaningful way. We want to introduce a new kind of learning style of learners of the 21st century. We want to produce something that's simply not as boring as the teaching materials we saw in the market. The parts of each chapter of our exercises are linked by a story, making our exercise a page-turner. The story format also creates an actual need for the student to use language and complete the story. Seeing the value in our project, our professional illustrator works closely with us to create captivating illustrations that effectively support meaning and further enhances motivation. We enjoy learning English and the fun it has brought us, and therefore we created this series in the hopes that no child will ever be discouraged from learning the language early on. No child deserves to miss out on the fun. Who are we?
