Oasis Das Estrelas

January 2022, we moved from the Netherlands to Portugal. We found our dream home near National Park, Serra da Estrelas. Lars is an ecological garden designer and Ayla is the founder of Moonrise Agency, remote management for sustainable companies. The off-grid terrain has two big houses that we have to renovate and 4.5 hectares of land. The land is surrounded by boulder rocks and our home lays in a cosy valley. We are creating a foodforest, with the intention to live self sustainable. Animals such as chickens, pigs, sheep, bees and cows will be a part of this too. Not to eat them, but to help us maintain the wild nature and to keep us company. The Serra da Estrela (mountain of stars), with the highest peak of Portugal, the “Torre”, measures 1993 meters. This is a region with beautiful landscapes and impressively steep slopes. Come to admire the surroundings, watch the varied vegetation, the birds or the flocks of sheep guarded by the typical sheepdogs of this mountain range. In this area you’ll find authentic Portugal life.
