Oba Kunta Octopus is a New York–based publishing house dedicated to producing bold, beautifully crafted books for readers with unconventional tastes and adventurous spirituality. We specialize in trade publishing—developing original, author-driven works across multiple genres—and we are known for nurturing lasting relationships with writers, agents, and creative partners. Our studio delivers a full suite of creative services, including writing, editing, book design, branding, marketing, and digital product development. Every project we take on is shaped by strategy, culture, and purpose, transforming ideas into polished, market-ready books and campaigns. We operate a traditional publishing model: we fully fund production and pay author royalties. We do not offer hybrid or pay-to-publish services. All acquisitions are carefully evaluated by our editorial advisory board. Part of our mission is to discover daring new voices while also reviving overlooked literary works for a new generation.
