Obuda University - Space Lab

Established in 2024, the Space Lab at Óbuda University is dedicated to achieving research excellence across both applied and theoretical domains of space science and technology. By collaborating closely with faculties, doctoral schools, industry partners, technology parks, and other institutional departments, the Lab plays a pivotal role in realizing the university's strategic goals in space research, science policy, and innovation. Beyond its core research activities, the Space Lab actively coordinates and promotes scientific excellence and student advancement within the university's space-focused programs. It identifies, secures, and manages funding opportunities to support the endeavors of academic researchers, educators, and research centers specializing in space-related studies. Currently, Óbuda University maintains established space research and development facilities in Budapest and Székesfehérvár, and is continually expanding capabilities through new facilities within its industrial and technology parks. The Space Lab’s mission is to inspire and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and professionals while contributing to the advancement of space exploration and technological innovation. It aims to build a dynamic, interdisciplinary community committed to space sciences, engineering, management, and economics. Its key activities encompass the implementation of research projects, tender and innovation management, international partnerships, industrial collaborations, and education initiatives. Research areas include space cybersecurity, space robotics, control theory, remote surgery, Earth observation, and space sustainability – analyzing trends, crafting recommendations, and advising stakeholders. The Space Lab is committed to fostering international presence, interdisciplinarity, and demonstrable scientific, economic, and societal impact in all its activities.
