Oceana Logistics is no longer in operaton Here are five myths and misunderstandings surrounding coffee that Oceana Coffee would like to help everyone understand: MYTH #1: Espresso has more caffeine than drip coffee.Per serving, espresso actually has less caffeine than drip coffee. Espresso has a shorter brewing time—less than 30 seconds versus five or six minutes for drip brewing—so less water-soluble caffeine is extracted into the espresso. The longer brewing time for drip coffee allows more caffeine to be extracted into the cup. MYTH #2 The freezer is best: “Everyone thinks they should store coffee in the freezer. It’s actually kind of the opposite. Storing in the freezer causes coffee to stale faster. Storing in the fridge also poses flavor risks, coffee is very porous and can absorb flavors around it. Coffee is best stored out of sunlight in an air tight container. MYTH #3 Dark roast = more caffeine = more flavor: “Everyone thinks dark-roasted coffee has more caffeine. It’s the opposite - you actually roast out more caffeine the longer I roast it. The higher the temperature, the more you’re burning out the caffeine. MYTH #4 Espresso is a bean: “It’s a drink preparation process, not a type of coffee or a kind of roast. You can serve any coffee bean as an espresso based drink. Some beans are roasted specifically to be brewed into espresso, but there’s no espresso bean.” Oceana Coffee has developed their own in house 4 bean blend for espresso. MYTH #5: Coffee-drinkers are smarter, better looking, and happier than non-coffee-drinkers. OK, this one really is true. They’re more charismatic also.
