Old Ignatians' Union
The Old Ignatians' Union as we know it was ultimately formed on 27th August, 1897 at a meeting in the Australian Hotel in Sydney. Thomas Kelly (OR1885), who had been for many years the moving force, was elected President. Under the Constitution of 1897 the Union's full name was The Saint Ignatius' College Ex-Students' Union. This name appears to have been changed in the early 1900's when it began to be called The Old Ignatians' Union. It is interesting that one of the main objects of the first Constitution was set out as follows: The objects of the Union shall be to sustain and strengthen the connection between the members of the Union, and to further the interests of Saint Ignatius' College Riverview.
