I have spent so much of my time over the past five years researching infant feeding, best infant care and responsive parenting, in a non-professional capacity and wondering how and when I would find the opportunity to make it make it my work. In 2021 I decided to make the leap from lay-researcher to trained practitioner and I found Wildflower Education with whom to do my training. Wildflower stood out to me, with their holistic, gentle, parent and child centred ethos, combined with current, fact-based, science led information, which was exactly what I wanted - to provide parents and families with accurate, science based facts and knowledge combined with a caring, nurturing approach to pregnancy, birth and beyond. Studying around caring for my children, I qualified as a fourth trimester wellbeing practitioner in January 2022 and have since been holding ‘Planning for Postnatal - Fourth trimester wellbeing’ 1:1 consultations and workshops, helping parents to enter the postnatal period armed with the knowledge and tools to maximise their physical and emotional wellbeing, all whilst caring for their newborn. In March 2022 I qualified as a Level 2 Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, allowing me to support new parents with their infant feeding choices. This was done via Breastfeeding Together, a charity who support breast / chest feeding parents with making informed infant feeding decisions. I now hold 1:1 ‘Preparing to Breastfeed’ workshops where I help parents understand not only the benefits of breast / chest feeding, but demonstrate how babies latch, help them to understand the physiology of breast / chest feeding and assist them in starting their feeding journeys, however they may look, feeling confident, empowered and informed. I also offer one-to-one feeding assessments once baby has arrived. My training with Wildflower Education is ongoing, and later in 2022 I will be adding Hypnobirthing Courses and Newborn Care workshops to my offerings.
