One Straw Society

One Straw Society is a registered charity on the Sunshine Coast of BC, building a diverse, connected, thriving, and sustainable local food system. The term “One Straw” was inspired by The One Straw Revolution, by Masanobu Fukuoka who believed in the power of a single straw to start a revolution. We focus on collaboration, resiliency, and impact through dozens of projects, programs, and events. year-round hands-on workshops, online speaker series, community gardens, demonstrations, children’s programs, seed-saving initiatives, education on traditional food and lands, events, farm to table dinners, subsidized food programs, support for farms, research, public policy, and many other initiatives. We bring people together to share skills and build resiliency and local food security, and we see our community as our leaders. We like to think of ourselves as a “think tank” for projects that will help us all reach our vision and mission, and we continue to grow and be inspired by the people of the Sunshine Coast.
