OpticalRooms was set up in Dublin in 2012 to capture two trending markets - the amalgamation of medical professionals together under one roof in primary health care centres and - online purchasing of glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. The large optical retailers have almost entirely captured the market and the emphasis is total devoted to sales. Sales = profit /dumbed down eye test fee. Time for a change, bring back the professional charge a fee for his expertise and a fair price for the frames and lenses. Working within GP surgeries, along side the other health care professionals we make every effort to bring great expertise and value to the centre. Ask any optometrist which is the most interesting part of the professional, most likely he will reply, increased learning and using his clinical knowledge. Ask him how he makes a living and he will have to take you out front, to view his frame range. Opticalrooms has a very low cost business model with none of the associated cost of renting and running a high street unit. We pass these savings on to our customers. In this way we can have a physical presence and compete with other online companies. I qualified as an Optometrist in 1990, a long time ago at this stage but rather than be entrenched in my ways I love change. The power of the internet has put this change in the hands of the public. The optical industry dreads the idea of people purchasing online or comparing prices. Personally I have no problem with this. We encourage people to purchase online and after they attend any of our clinics we upload their optical details, in full! to an online account where they have everything they need to order from us or anywhere on the web. Each clinic is fully stocked with frames, sunglasses and contact lenses and not every patient wants to transact online. Our goal is to provide great professional service, convenience and value.
