OralKleen, a Fall 2019 Arizona Innovation Challenge Awardee, has developed a device that addresses the problem of inadequate oral health solutions for compromised patients. OralKleen targets Ventilator-Acquired Pneumonia (VAP). “Currently, the least effective oral care products are used on the sickest patients in the hospital.” Virginia Prendergast, Ph.D- Barrow Neurological Institute, Senior Director Evidence Based Medicine Healthcare providers have reported significant difficulty delivering oral hygiene to hospitalized patients, especially those who are incapacitated. Ventilated patients are the highest level of concern and most compromised. Up to people die each year in the United States from infections acquired while mechanically ventilated in the ICU.
