Orchid Project
Welcome to Orchid Project, where we envision a world free from female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C). Our mission is to be the catalyst in the movement to end FGM/C by generating and sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and uniting stakeholders to influence global commitments. As a registered UK charity with offices in Kenya and Denmark, our impact extends worldwide. FGM/C is a deeply harmful practice that forcibly removes a girl's external genitals, affecting millions of girls globally. Shockingly, each year, at least 4.3 million girls are at risk of undergoing FGM/C, while over 200 million women are currently living with its devastating consequences. Alarmingly, in half of the countries where FGM/C is prevalent, the majority of girls undergo the procedure before the age of 5. This deeply entrenched practice violates human rights, compromises health, undermines child welfare, and disregards the rights of women. Notably, FGM/C has no medical purpose, is not mandated by any religion, and can lead to severe physical and psychological repercussions. At Orchid Project, we tirelessly advocate for increased resources and prioritize efforts to combat FGM/C globally. We establish strategic partnerships with organizations working towards a sustained end to FGM/C in practicing countries, effectively communicating the urgent need to eradicate this practice. With a dedicated team of 18 professionals, including research experts, and a board of 10 trustees, Orchid Project is committed to driving meaningful change. Together, we strive to protect the rights of women and girls, promote their well-being, and create a future where FGM/C is relegated to history. For more information about our work, please visit our website: Join us in our mission to end FGM/C and create a world where every girl and woman can live free from this harmful practice.
