Orios Designs

Oliver Rios’ work is rooted in El Barrio (East Harlem), where art functions as social testimony, cultural preservation, and collective memory. Drawing from the visual languages of 1970s and 1980s street culture—spray-can art, Hip-Hop aesthetics, and community muralism—Rios situates his practice at the intersection of public art, design, and documentation. His images emerge from lived experience and sustained engagement with place, bearing witness to the resilience, grief, and creativity of Puerto Rican and Latino communities in the diaspora. Across murals, photography, printmaking, and digital media, Rios explores themes of identity, migration, remembrance, and resistance. His early memorial murals and anti-violence works transformed public walls into sites of healing and visibility, while later projects expanded these narratives into institutional spaces and emerging technologies. Whether through linocut prints inspired by Boricua iconography or augmented-reality interventions mapping neighborhood history, Rios’ work asserts art as a tool for empowerment—one that honors the past while imagining collective futures grounded in social justice.
