Oxford Mutual Aid
OMA began in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, as a community support group, to fill a gap in Oxford’s aid infrastructure. Most of our work involves the delivery of regular and emergency food parcels to vulnerable members of the community facing food insecurity. Oxford is experiencing an acute food poverty crisis, with some of the highest levels of food poverty, cost of living, and inequality in the UK, causing dramatic disparities in health, wellbeing and quality of life. We deliver healthy, nutritious parcels of food, toiletries, cleaning products and baby supplies across the entirety of Oxford City, direct-to-door, supporting people a month with over parcels delivered in 2024. Operationally, we deliver weekly, regular parcels to 190 households, and deliver 50+ emergency, on-request parcels each week. These parcels are a lifeline to marginalised members of our communities, stocked largely through the repurposing of would-be waste/surplus food from local businesses and shops. We believe in solving problems with, not for the communities we serve, working as a collective community to support one another, prioritising a holistic, wrap-around approach to our support with regular check-ins, extensive signposting, and case-management support. We are run by the community, for the community and do not means-test.
