Paint The Town Read

Stories and words grow our brains. One in six children under 2 in Australia are not read to in an average week. These children are already falling behind when they start school. If we read, talk, rhyme, sing and draw with children from birth, we help them to build the language and literacy skills they need for school and their future. At PTTR, we support local, community-led groups with evidence-based strategies to build early literacy for children and their families across Australia. Founded in rural NSW by local school principals, we partner with communities across our country who need the most support. The Paint The Town REaD, Black and Yellow movement aims to generate a sustainable community movement that values and celebrates literacy, so all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children arrive at school ready to learn. PTTRB & Y is based on advice and direction from remote, rural, regional and urban community senior Aboriginal women. We wish to acknowledge their wisdom, love and commitment to their babies.
