Palestinian Public Prosecution

Overview: The Public Prosecution is one of the judicial authority sections. It is an institution that acts on behalf of the society and is delegated to represent it. It seeks to meet the proper application of the provisions of the law. In accordance with the law, the Public Prosecution has the exclusive power to conduct a penal action aiming at maintaining security in the society and keep it strong. The Criminal Procedures Law has expressly stipulated this in its 1st Article (The Public Prosecution has the exclusive power to initiate a penal action …) The Public Prosecution undertakes all its functions to represent all of the State institutions before all courts in the cases and applications raised by them or against them and to implement the criminal judgments issued by the competent courts. The Public Prosecution also exercises its powers in appearing before the Constitutional Court in the constitutional cases before it. Vision:"A Palestinian society governed by law and justice, and the principle of separation of powers, and in which rights are respected and freedoms are protected". Mission:"A professional, effective and independent Public Prosecution, which is in line with the justice sector institutions, and able to ensure fair and expeditious proceedings, whereas investigation and pleading before courts are subject to standards of transparency, impartiality and neutrality. It is an honest adversary, working for the promotion of the principle of the rule of law, equality and separation of powers in the Palestinian society."
