Peace Corps Guatemala

In 1961, Peace Corps was established as a United States government agency, with the mission to: “Promote Peace and Friendship” between the United States and the countries where our Trainees/Volunteers serve. That mission is implemented through the completion of three goals: Goal 1. Strengthen Local Capacity Partner with the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained individuals. Goal 2. Share United States of America with the World Promote a better understanding of the people of the United States on the part of the peoples served. Goal 3. Bring the World Back Home Promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of the people of the United States. Peace Corps has been working with the people of Guatemala since 1962 and we are part of the United States Embassy’s mission in Guatemala. We contribute to and support the Government of Guatemala’s community development plan in local communities. We do that through the active, strategic work of our trainees/volunteers in specific program areas which we have mutually agreed to work on with our Guatemalan partners. Therefore, a key organizational goal is to provide program, training, medical, security, and administrative support to Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) in Guatemala, helping them, in their various assignments to support community projects, to make a positive contribution to Guatemala’s development plan in local villages and municipalities, where they serve. By supporting our volunteers, we are able to carry out our mission here in Guatemala.
