We advocate for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Bridgend County, Wales. Advocacy means supporting people to speak up, understand and make important decisions in their lives. We advocate for people in lots of ways: • Self-Advocacy Group – We have members who come together and use their voices to speak up about issues affecting them and the wider learning disability and autism communities. • Independent Advocacy – We have one-to-one advocates that help people speak up and make choices about specific issues. These issues can be statutory or non-statutory. Statutory issues are when people need to make choices about their care and support. • Awareness Training – We train people about learning disability, autism and advocacy. We have trained the police, medical students and social work students. • Easy Read – We translate documents into Easy Read. We make things simpler for people with learning disabilities to use by using pictures and plain language.
