PersonaDx was founded on decades of paradigm-shifting metastasis research at the University of Chicago by Dr. Ralph R. Weichselbaum (Distinguished Ludwig Professor and Chair, Radiation & Cellular Oncology; National Academy of Medicine) and Dr. Sean P. Pitroda (Associate Professor; Principal Investigator). Their pioneering work defined the clinical and molecular determinants of the oligometastatic state and established the framework that now shapes how we treat metastatic cancer. They discovered and patented biomarkers that reveal which patients with metastatic cancer can benefit from curative local therapy or systemic treatment, setting the stage for a new precision standard of care. Together with healthcare operator Kevin Donnelly, they launched PersonaDx to bring these innovations from the lab to the clinic—empowering oncologists to make curative treatment decisions. PersonaDx’s lead assay, PersonaCRC, classifies metastatic colorectal cancer using tumor RNA profiles and a proprietary neural network model. Validated in Nature Communications (2018) and JAMA Oncology (2023) and independently confirmed with Phase 3 New EPOC trial data, PersonaCRC achieved more than 90% accuracy in metastasis classification and identified a low-risk subgroup with potentially curable outcomes. The assay runs in CLIA-certified labs with a 48-hour turnaround and is fully compatible with existing oncology workflows. Beyond colorectal cancer, PersonaDx’s AI engine provides a scalable framework for other metastatic diseases - creating highly curated, multimodal data sets that can accelerate therapeutic development, inform AI training, and advance precision medicine research.
