Pincheck is named for a skydiving safety procedure performed before exiting the aircraft, in which the closing loops and pins on the main and reserve parachutes are visually inspected. This offers a final chance to identify damaged, dislodged, or improperly seated equipment and help avoid situations in which a parachute opens prematurely or not at all. The key is that a pin check does not happen in isolation and is instead the last of many others, all important in their own rights.
