At PISA Prodigies, teachers develop and use carefully thought-out, mathematical models, already used across countries, to foster deep understanding, often involving multiple ways of thinking about the same mathematical concept. Lessons are very interactive, with lots of careful questioning and multiple mini-plenaries in lessons. Practice exercises involve variations that help to focus children’s attention on key mathematical ideas. At PISA Prodigies, we envisage bridging the gap between real-life math and classroom math. What We Do? We emphasize logical reasoning and mathematical thinking. While teaching the topic ‘Shapes’, to the Primary One students, the questions such as: “Why couldn’t we build the truck’s wheels using rectangular shapes or cubes?” and “What are the differences between triangles and rectangles?” are asked. 1)We emphasise on the use of mathematical language. 2)Creative problem solving that needs space, mulling and dwelling. 3)Our teachers have a deep understanding of the conceptual building of math and how children learn. 4)Regular and frequent Parent-Teacher interactions.
