Planet One

Planet One is an initiative to support the growing global youth movement for climate justice. Through this collaborative project between Fryshuset and Greenpeace we aim to combine the two organizations’ long experience and strengths in meeting, engaging and building platforms for young people to carry out advocacy work. Based on the makerspace culture’s philosophy of creating common physical places and providing tools for learning-by-doing, young people in Stockholm (Sweden), Budapest (Hungary), Jerevan (Armenia), Yaondé (Cameroon), Nairobi (Kenya) and Johannesburg (South Africa) will set the base of an international network of local Planet One makerspaces. By creating physical meeting places where young activists and climate- engaged youth can run their projects and campaigns, produce materials and arrange meetings and events, we will enable more young people to get involved in the environmental movement. The makerspaces will be flexible and designed by young people and for young people. Each local makerspace will provide space and opportunities for realizing a variety of ideas – from small-scale solar projects to large global climate campaigns. Besides being physical meeting places, all local makerpaces will be digital nodes equipped with modern technological solutions that supports the interaction and collaboration between participants within and across country borders.
