Good architecture does not show itself at completion, but appears later by grace of its users. In this way, a design is neither end nor beginning. It is a linking moment in which reflection on what exists and anticipation of what might come are aligned. The design process lies uninhibitedly between the question and the answer. It unites different domains of knowledge and structures thoughts. Doubt, chance and complexity make sense within this iterative process provided it is conceived with the same determination and seriousness of a playing child. This produces designs of integrity and responsibility that capture the spirit of the times and dare to make a statement. To design, we must understand. This is why we attach the utmost importance to dialogue. We explore and surround ourselves with partners who know more than us and excel in their fields. In this way, we avoid a hermetically sealed practice that does not question or be questioned. Driven by our commitment to architectural education, our design practice is informed by a theoretical foundation and frame of reference. Within our firm, we work on small- and large-scale projects with social, cultural and public interests. Our work is diverse and includes idiosyncratic and other types of buildings in addition to private and public commissions. At the same time, we delve into the collective and contemporary housing issue where typological and design research tailored to the respective projects go hand in hand. Besides various publications and lectures, we are on the list of promising designers of the Ghent City Architect and won the architecture prize Kortrijk. Our firm was recently nominated for the Belgian Building Awards 2024 in the 'Rookie of the Year' category. In the spring, as part of the Flemish Architecture Institute's 'Tafelzetting' exhibition series, we will exhibit our work on the forecourt of De Singel.
