Kathy Schuerman has always had an interest and passion in skin care and sun safety. As she and her husband raised their family, their 7 children played every sport under the sun which required the family to spend hours exposed to the sun at sporting events. With a family of Irish and German heritage, the fight against skin cancer was all to real. Kathy’s mother had melanoma removed from her face and several aunts had basal cell cancers removed. Kathy's desire and interest in skin cancer prevention, led to her to partner with family friend, Brandon Lucas who LOVES GOLF, and also grew up playing every sport conceivable. Being the son of a mother living with Lupus, being involved with sun protection was an avid interest for Brandon. Inspired by their family histories of troubled skin health, together Kathy and Brandon launched Players Shield in 2020. Fun Fact: Brandon carded a hole-in-one prior to his first birdie. At Players Shield, we pride ourselves on our commitment to raising awareness of sun safe behaviors and skin cancer prevention in the global golf world. Currently, between 2 and 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and melanoma skin cancers occur globally each year. One in every 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. Our outreach includes building relationships with golf professionals to leverage their influence with their peers and players of all ages and skill levels. We proudly sponsor colligate and high school golf teams. Our goal with all of our endeavors is to increase awareness of the risks and prevention of sun exposure.
