The first product for Playscape is Mirrorscape. It is an innovative tummy time toy, whose design takes into consideration how a child develops motor skills and its features address the unique desires of babies. A toy that incorporates these necessary considerations is better able to successfully engage a baby during “tummy time”. Research indicates that "tummy time" promotes brain development and helps babies reach important developmental milestones more quickly (i.e. rolling, sitting, crawling). Some research also suggests that "tummy time" promotes child engagement, attention and concentration in the long term. As the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends and pediatricians will tell you, babies need to do "tummy time”. Most babies do not like doing 'tummy time" because its hard; a baby has to work against gravity as they use their muscles to learn how to hold their head up. As such, most babies resist doing "tummy time" and parents seek ways to increase the time their baby stays and plays on their stomach. Parents often look toward toys as one solution for making "tummy time" more enjoyable; however, from personal experiences (as a new mom) and professional experiences (being a physical therapist with 13 years experience of working with children), I could not find “THE” toy that would make “tummy time” more enjoyable for my son as well as for the children I work with. The toys out there either required me to modify them or lacked a variety of creative features that would help maintain a baby’s attention. My inability to find the “right” toy that would motivate my son and other babies to sustain doing “tummy time” lead to designing and creating this one of a kind product. So parents, loved ones and caregivers looking to buy an amazing baby toy need not look any further-Mirrorscape is what you have been waiting for!
