Born in Manhattan in 1972, PONY was founded by Uruguayan-born entrepreneur Roberto Muller. His aim was to revolutionize the sneaker industry by building a brand that simultaneously forged world-beating athletes to the forefront and appealed to New York's counterculture. By the late 1970s, PONY was one of the largest sporting apparel businesses in the US, sold in over 100 countries worldwide and endorsed by some of the biggest athletes out there.
