Praetorian Studios is an Edmonton-based technology company developing virtual reality tools that support clinicians in delivering safer, more effective trauma-focused therapy. After beginning as a traditional game development studio, we have deliberately pivoted toward medical technology—applying our expertise in Unity and Unreal Engine to address one of Canada’s most urgent mental-health challenges: PTSD and trauma exposure. The company is led by a former Tier-1 Special Operations medic with firsthand experience treating trauma in high-stress environments. This background gives our team a rare understanding of how PTSD affects both patients and frontline clinicians, and why traditional imagination-based exposure work often fails to create the clarity or emotional presence required for meaningful therapeutic progress. Our platform recreates simplified snapshots of traumatic memories in virtual reality based on clinician input. These controlled VR scenarios allow patients to step into key moments of their traumatic experience—safely, intentionally, and under full clinical supervision during in-person Prolonged Exposure therapy. By enhancing visualization and engagement, our goal is to support therapists, reduce dropout rates, and offer a modern tool for individuals who struggle to confront trauma through imagination alone.
