We are a football club where joy meets football. On our pitches, children (re)discover the joy of play. It’s the essence of our being, it is precisely why we named ourselves after it (Prazeres meaning joy, happiness in Portuguese). We are the place where energy meets opportunity. And our name is just a reflection of what we represent. In the heart of Rio's favelas (working-class slums within the outskirts of the city), we're kicking off dreams, one goal at a time. With our crest proudly emblazoned on our jerseys, our club inspires others to find pleasure in the camaraderie of the game as well. We play together, we learn together, we laugh together. Why a football club? Great question! Football is an important connector in people's lives, especially in Brazil. In the vibrant and tightly-knit favela’s of Rio, football isn't just a sport; it's a way of life that transcends boundaries and fosters a sense of unity, belonging, and hope among the youth. It is a simple but powerful tool to make a significant difference. It’s no secret that a lot of children from these communities suffer from the harsh conditions in the outskirts. Poverty, violence and livelihood inequality are unfortunately common conditions. However, this is a positive story about hope. Prazeres United was founded for a reason and we chose football as our tool to change futures for the better. Football cuts across socio-economic divides, offering a common ground where differences fade away. Creating a sense of belonging to a team is an important aspect of life; it creates friendships and gives you the feeling of community. It's not just about scoring goals; it's about being part of something larger than oneself.
