Project Allegro is a new video production company led by former NYT journalist Alexei Barrionuevo focused on delivering globally relevant culture, business and investigative stories from around the world for delivery through evolving and traditional distribution formats. Allegro’s aim is to leverage new production models to bring never seen stories to light at the same high journalistic standards that has driven its founder through his 20 year journalism career. Project Allegro’s first production is a 12-part series, “Waiting For The Drop.” The series takes audiences on a journey around the world to reveal how this once-underground music scene became mainstream— where we are and how we got here. The series chronicles how club DJs went from interchangeable obscurity to celebrity superstars, their music becoming the soundtrack of our lives. “Waiting For The Drop” takes us from the underground clubs and raves that defined the early culture, to the key locations and moments that accelerated the revolution toward dance music from Europe to US, the stadiums and mega-festivals, Madison Avenue, Hollywood and Las Vegas.
