Project KHEL is a Lucknow based non-profit that harnesses the power of play to create positive impact in the spaces of Gender, Pluralism and Sense of Self. To achieve this, we run 5 separate initiatives - Regular Programmes: i) Made in Maidaan – Our bi-weekly, hour-long interventions at low-income schools, shelter homes, and communities, where we use sports and outdoor games and activities to impart 21st-century life skills to children. ii) FrisB(arabar) – Our sports coaching programme for athletes from underprivileged backgrounds, committed to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate Frisbee is a self-officiated sport, mostly played in its mixed-gender format in India. Workshops: i) Red Spot: Our initiative on menstrual attitude management helps young girls, as well as mothers and grandmothers, to re-evaluate menstruation as a normal and natural biological phenomenon. We also facilitate these workshops with boys to help build empathy in their minds for menstruators. ii) ab BAS: Our initiative against Child Sexual Abuse uses a preventive perspective by educating children about their bodies, encouraging them to draw boundaries, and helping them communicate their experiences with adults in their lives whom they trust. Helping children believe that an abusive incident was not their fault is also a top priority. We also work with parents and grandparents on how to have conversations with their children, such that they feel safe enough to communicate with them, and empower them to take steps to protect their families while understanding complicated realities that might be functioning between the child and the perpetrator and the family. Teen Talks: Our judgment-free discussion spaces where teenagers are free to talk, ask or share about any topic under the sun, starting from handling social media or body image to relationships, break ups, pornography and such.
