Project Parore
Project Parore is a community led catchment care group. We aim to improve biodiversity and fresh water quality at the northern end of Tauranga Moana. The eight catchments in our rohe cover 26,500 hectares, but we're concentrating on the hectares between the edge of the harbour and the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park. Project Parore is an incorporated society, governed by a volunteer board. It employs a team of people engaged in Restoration, Enhancement and Protection (the REP crew). It also supports the Katikati Environmental Activator (KEA) who helps dozens of volunteers to contribute to a renatured Katikati and a healthier environment. We operate a medium sized native plant nursery (led by volunteers); plant trees, flaxes, sedges each year; return steep land to native forest cover; restore wetlands; provide means for fish to climb streams; help local communities with predator control programs; deliver and support education programs for staff, volunteers, school children and the general public; liase with and support local Katikati community institutions, for example, the Western Bay Museum and Katch Katikati.
