Propulse Ntnu
Propulse NTNU is a technical organization with the purpose of giving students the opportunity to explore and innovate solutions that prepare Norway for a future in space. Through the development of rockets and rocket propulsion systems, students gain insight and experience in many fields, such as 3D modelling, programming, production and machining, financial management and graphic design. The industry plays a central role for the organization and a membership provides students with the opportunity to create a broad network. Propulse NTNU has proven to be one of the best teams in student rocketry, with both Project Stetind and Project Birkeland getting good results. Project Birkeland came 3rd place in the world's largest rocket competition, the Spaceport America Cup 2022. In 2023, Propulse NTNU launched Project Bifrost, Norway’s first liquid-fueled rocket. The project marked a major leap in technical ambition, featuring a fully student-developed bi-propellant engine using ethanol and nitrous oxide, and achieving a successful launch in Portugal. In 2025, the team reached another milestone with Project Heimdall, a 5.8 meter tall, 150 kg rocket powered by an 8 kN liquid engine. Launched from Tarva, Norway, Heimdall reached an official apogee of 3,318 m and was successfully recovered after a controlled water landing. The mission also marked Propulse’s first fully self-organized launch campaign, handling everything from logistics and operations to flight safety and recovery. In total, the project represents over hours of work from more than 70 students, standing as a testament to how far student rocketry in Norway has come. With each project, Propulse NTNU continues to push the boundaries of student engineering, building the technology, knowledge, and people that will power Norway’s future in space.
