A South African biotech company is using its mining development skills to breed black soldier flies. The larvae of the black soldier fly are capable of converting large amounts of organic waste into protein-rich biomass to substitute meal for fishmeal hereby contributing to sustainable aquaculture and animal feed, the company currently has an operational test unit and the first commercial-scale operation that will be able to handle 60 tons per day of waste in Worcester South Africa. We are currently investigating setting up another 2 commercial plants.
