Kay Pysden qualified in 1987 and has specialised in this field from qualification. She held the position of the Chair of the Advisory Body on Legal Matters in the wordlwide forwarding association FIATA from 2004-2007 and was BIFA's Retained Legal Adviser from from creation to termination of the post. She continues to advise BIFA and sits on its Legal and Insurance Policy Group. She is currently the member of a group of experts opposing the Rotterdam Rules, a Convention intended to replace the operation of the Hague, Hague-Visby and Hamburg Rules and to govern international carriage wholly or partly by sea.
