Qx Design

QX Design stands for Questions and experiences. Our design philosophy can be condensed in 4 words 'why, what, how, wow' i.e. to ask the right questions before conforming to quick answers and as a result, to arrive at something which provokes. Our construction process strives to explore alternative technologies involving intensive site participation and grassroot level innovation. We have so far worked with different techniques of Bamboo structures, shallow brick domes floor slabs, ferrocement roof and staircases, parametric masonry walls, debris wall, mud lime etc. varying in different geographical contexts be it hilly or coastal, rural or urban or rurban. QX design was founded by Udit Mittal in 2018, about three years after his graduation from SPA, Delhi. He attributes his work experiences at Ovoid Atelier, Pondicherry and with Vinu Daniel, Kerala as founding stones to pave his path of practice. His soft skills into physical theatre, music, fine arts and cycling got his first projects in the city of Bhubaneswar. Living in Odisha, got him exposed to working in rural contexts and understand challenges of implementation. During pandemic he moved the studio to his hometown Kolkata and worked in Sundarbans with guidance of architect Laurent Fournier. Currently with his partner Kirti Jalan, the studio also develops and designs products and interior installations using rattan. Instagram:@qx_design Website:
