One of my first memories involved reading a book by Spike Milligan. Words hummed on the page. It was a sensitive subject - the sharp end of war - and Spike didn’t hold back, but the subtle mix of fluid and florid language was a catalyst in many ways. Ever since, I’ve been choosing persuasive language that, hopefully, has the same impact. More bullet points, fewer bullets. In short, “I’m a writer” means being involved in writing, editing, planning, marketing, creating strategy, acting as a sounding board for all kinds of comms, and delivering specialist narratives that tell a persuasive story. Or, as a client once said, “Sensitive subjects don’t spook you, and when you’ve put the wrong words right, you write the right words too”. Rentaquill Ltd, the company, has been alive and definitely kicking for many years but I’ve been an independent writer for longer than anyone should admit.
