Rethread Africa is on a mission to rewire Africa’s food systems so they work for both people and planet. We design and scale commercially viable, science-backed innovations that address the everyday challenges faced by smallholder farmers and rural communities — from food safety and nutrition to post-harvest loss and market access. Our journey began in the lab, developing sustainable materials from agricultural waste. Along the way, we realised the bigger opportunity lay in tackling the systemic barriers that keep Africa’s rural food economies from thriving. Today, we combine deep science, frugal innovation, and community-centred design to create solutions that are practical, profitable, and built for scale. Whether it’s rapid food safety testing kits for informal markets, nutrition fortification for the first days, or low-cost technologies for post-harvest infrastructure, our goal is the same: to unlock resilience, income, and dignity for the people who grow over 80% of Africa’s food. From pilot projects to mass deployment, we partner with governments, researchers, and industry leaders to turn breakthrough ideas into lasting impact — without donor dependency.
