RNAShield is based on the world leading RNA research lab in John Innes Centre. Viral diseases of commercial plants are an extremely detrimental economic threat to food production. Efficient technologies to help stop BYV spread are of utmost urgency. However, there are currently no BYV-resistant beet varieties. we propose to take advantage of a molecular biological approach to employ small molecular inhibitors that can specifically bind to and deactivate a target virus. Our ambition is to provide sugar beet growers with an environmentally-friendly, safe, reliable, efficient, sustainable and long-lasting protection against the virus. Our proposed solution aims to help save the viability of the sugar beet industry.
