Robert James Consultants is the trading name of Robert James a senior independent consultant who has been specialising in data Governance issues for over 25 years, particularly those where data is related to person details, names and addresses, or where data is spatially referenced. Although I occasionally work on my own it is more common for me to work as a member of a team often with myself as the main contractor. In this way very highly qualified task specific teams can be put together to resolve any data based issue. Each team normally has a peer reviewer, this is somebody who is not part of the day to day working of the team, who reviews the output of the team comparing it to the contract to ensure that we deliver what is required. We specialise in five main forms of intervention on behalf of organisations: Strategy Studies - these are usually undertaken when an organisation is aware of problems with data that are so profound that it wants to consider the whole process of data collection, maintenance and use. Learning Studies - sometimes an organisation is aware of emerging new properties in existing data streams or changing demands by data users and needs to understand what is happening and what risks there are. Quality Studies - these vary from the traditional quality as accuracy style of study to a more modern holistic approach where fitness for purpose of the whole system is considered. New System Design - a major part of our work is assisting organisations in planning for and converting data from legacy to modern systems and providing a data centric input into the design of these new systems. Data Cleansing - either as part of an ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) process with a new system or as a housekeeping activity. We profile data sets, determine whether there is any need to intervene and if required make the necessary interventions.
