Roeloff Productions

In the beginning of 2010, Roeloff Productions was founded by Roelof Flierman after he finished a career in science. Now, he is dedicating his skills and efforts to make naturally sounding recordings of live music – from classical to world and jazz music, from vocal to instrumental music. Additionally, he is working as a composer, musician and producer of acoustic and electronic music, mainly inspired by renowned composers and musicians like Arvo Part, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Ennio Morricone, Steve Reich, Iona, Sufjan Stevens, Over The Rhine and Sigur Ros."Less is more" – a small phrase from a poem by Robert Browning (1812 – 1889) which has been adopted by many artists and designers to refer to their philosophy about music, architecture and arts. In science, interestingly, this way of thinking is also known as Occam’s razor – meaning that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one of what things truly are. This philosophy has also influenced my work as musician/composer and producer/engineer for the greater part. Indeed, creating and recording music proved to be both rewarding and challenging while trying to keep it simple but authentic. That is, this approach provides a balance to it all – a lot of notes or microphones tend to make things complicated, while less abundant use of those often turned out a difficult choice to make. In the end, however, it results in suprisingly natural and wonderful results.
