We are avowed value investors and believe that the first tenet of successful investing is the preservation of capital. While investing does hold many risks, and at times these will impact returns, we are extremely conscious of the destructive effects of capital loss at any point in the investment horizon. Our belief is that most investors with a balanced portfolio simply want to be treated fairly in terms of fees and communication, deal with an investment manager with integrity and to earn a return (after fees) in excess of what they would have earned in a risk free type investment such as a GIC.
