Roots Psychology
All families go through times of difficulty and can face different challenges. Sometimes our usual ways of coping with problems can feel like they no longer work and we can feel “stuck” about what to do. Sometimes we need somewhere to go to think through difficulties, and find new ways to manage. Dr Catherine Pitfield draws upon the current evidence base and works collaboratively with children and families to tailor support to effectively manage difficulties such as anxiety, low mood and challenging behaviour. Of equal importance, she works to develop the child or young person’s resilience and self-esteem. Dr Catherine Pitfield finds the best way to engage and help children is to work creatively, through a combination of talking, play, drawing, story-telling and games. She aims to build an understanding of a child’s or family’s difficulties, with a view to moving away from a problem-focused story and to draw on children’s and families strengths to build a preferred future.
