Rupki

Rupki is a word for an ancient traditional Lithuanian medicine. People used to put a toe in a bottle and fill it with homemade vodka. Today brand Rupki stands for an upcycled fashion. Rupki is a fashion "medicine" promoting a more conscious lifestyle. Rupki brand garments are going hand in hand with modern sustainable lifestyle. We put a lot of time and effort to find more efficient solutions in the making of clothing. Our clothing is made from new, but unsold garments, and leftover fabric scraps. Rupki buys garments which became leftovers from the market surplus. As a result, the fabric we sew from is always limited. Rupki trademark stands for transformation and alternative. People used to deconstruct clothing because of scarcity now we upcycle because of abundance. Rupki was born while thinking how fashion business could operate without adding up to one of the largest polluters in the world - the clothing market. An idea to use already existing garments and their fabrics came up. Rupki uses a minimum amount of new fabrics and if it is so - we buy the leftovers from other designers. We also produce many leftovers in the process of deconstruction. However, we put in a lot of effort and time to sort them and find a solution how to use them - most of our leftovers become accessories. It is far more complicated process to build a new piece of clothing from the deconstructed clothing. However, it is often a far more interesting and creatively challenging process too. The best and the most demanding part of the process is to understand how the current garment construction will influence the cut of the new piece of clothing.
