Rygaards International School

Rygaards International School is a private not-for-profit international catholic school. With students of more than 60 nationalities, we welcome children and young people of all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. Rygaards consists of an International Department which follows a Cambridge IGCSE curriculum framework, and a Danish department which adheres to the standard Danish curriculum. Founded in 1909, Rygaards is the oldest international school in Denmark. Today, we are a modern, well-equipped institution set in beautiful park grounds in Hellerup, just 5 kilometers from the Co-penhagen city center. Rygaards was established in 1909 by the Assumption Sisters, whose mission was to educate the whole child. Therefore, our aim is to practice a form of education which aims to strengthen the self-esteem, academic excellence, empathy, and all-round personal development of the individual student. Our esteemed values are what sets us apart from other educational institutions. An ever-present engagement with values such as mutual respect, kindness, courage, trust, empathy, and responsibility creates a unique atmosphere here at Rygaards. In other words, at our school we are passionate about education in a dual sense of the term. Along with high academic standards, the objective of our educational practice is to provide our students with what we in Danish call dannelse. This word makes up part of the Danish word for education –uddannelse – but in itself it translates to formation or evolvement. At Rygaards, education is not solely about learning and acquiring new academic skills, but also about each student growing and developing as a person and a citizen of the world.
