Sabor de Maria" betekent in het Portugees "de smaak van Maria".De geschiedenis van de winkel draait om de smaak van twee Maria’s, die niet Portugees zijn, maar Braziliaans en beiden afkomstig uit de Braziliaanse provincie Goiás. Daarom “Sempre Maria”: altijd Maria.In ’97 opende de eerste Maria de deuren van “Sabor de Maria’. In 2006 nam de tweede Maria het over, Maria Luiza Dourado: zij is niet alleen de eigenares van de winkel, maar ook de chef-kok. Het originele idee was er vanaf het begin: een plek te maken waar buurtbewoners en Brazilianen kunnen komen eten - goed, lekker, gezond en niet duur. ‘Sabor de Maria’ groeide in 22 jaar uit tot een winkel van en voor de buurt.
